Marcus Stallworth

Marcus Stallworth, LMSW, operates with a strength based, hands on approach.  Spending close to 20 years providing Child Protective Services, he is recognized by the State of Connecticut as an expert witness for providing testimony. He has spearheaded several initiatives to promote the engagement of Fathers, the prevention of abuse and neglect, and the dangers of social media. He has direct experience educating and supporting Human Trafficking and Sexually Exploited victims, training staff on Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity, and advocating for those in Foster Care. He played a leadership role in Connecticut’s Disaster Behavioral Health Response Network and oversaw recovery efforts in Newtown CT after the events on December 14, 2012.

Marcus is the Director of Training and Implementation for the Child Welfare League of America, where he provides training, curriculum development, and consultations services for foster care agencies across the country.  He is also co-owner of Welcome 2 Reality, LLC which focuses on providing media literacy and education for students and parents regarding social media and technology. Stallworth and his team are credited for getting Public Act 17-67 passed into law Connecticut, mandating steps be taken to provide social Media Literacy education be taught in all public schools. He currently teaches a self- created elective entitled: Social Media: The Good, Bad, and the Ugly at the University of Bridgeport. He has taught courses at Post University, the University of Connecticut, and is currently teaching in the Graduate School of Social Work at Fordham University. Marcus serves on the Board of Directors of the National Foster Parent Association and plays a leadership role in Connecticut’s Fatherhood Engagement Leadership Team (F.E.L.T). He is also a member of Media Literacy Now’s national advisory council, which provides advocacy and resources for media literacy education in schools.

Marcus Stallworth, LMSW, operates with a strength based, hands on approach. He has spearheaded several initiatives to promote the engagement of Fathers, identify the dangers of social media, and raise the awareness for equity and inclusion. He has direct experience educating and supporting Human Trafficking and Sexually Exploited victims, including those in Foster Care. He played a leadership role in Connecticut’s Disaster Behavioral Health Response Network and oversaw recovery efforts in Newtown CT after the events on December 14, 2012. 

 

Marcus is also co-owner of Welcome 2 Reality, LLC which focuses on providing media literacy and education for students and parents regarding social media and technology. Stallworth and his team are credited for getting Public Act 17-67 passed into Connecticut law, mandating statewide standards be developed to ensure media literacy, internet safety, and digital citizenship are taught in all public schools. His advocacy provided him the opportunity to create a self-created elective entitled: Social Media: The Good, Bad, and the Ugly at the University of Bridgeport. He has also taught courses at Post University, the University of Connecticut, the University of South Florida, and currently teaches in the Graduate School of Social Work at Fordham University. He is also co-founder of Reality Based Services, Inc. and this non-profit organization educates teens how to use technology to create their own narrative in positive ways.

 

Marcus has spent the last several years working with the Child Welfare League of America and now serves as Director of Training and Implementation. This work has provided him the opportunity to assist child welfare agencies across the US and internationally with implementation strategies to achieve positive outcomes for children and families. He has published many articles regarding the importance of using strength-based language, how to support grieving children, and ways to reduce and prevent disruptions. He is also the content creator and published author of the Building Blocks for Effective Co-Parenting training curriculum. 

 

Marcus is Vice President of the Board of Directors for CT’s Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA). He is a member of Media Literacy Now’s national advisory council, which provides advocacy and resources for educators, students, and parents. He is also a proud father of two, and recipient of the 100 Men of Color award in 2017.

I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who knows first hand the lasting impact childhood trauma can have on ones mind, body and soul.  My life experiences have led to me choose a life of service to others through providing hope and healing.  Being a therapist is something I enjoy, providing support comes EASY.   

 

My unwavering desire and innate ability to Make people feel comfortable and accepted, help people identify and  put their feelings into words and accept people for who they are makes me a great listener and compassionate therapist.  I am intentional about being fully present for others during the most difficult times and being a person who listens on purpose!    

 

For over 20 years I have worked with individuals, couples and families in addressing some of life’s most challenging circumstances. I am clinically trained in the following treatment modalities; Psychodynamic , Cognitive Behavioral (CBT), Trauma-Focused CBT (TF-CBT), and Solution Focused Therapy.  

 

My use of diverse and interactive; clinical and holistic therapeutic approaches have proven to be most effective in addressing issues including but not limited to depression, anxiety, trauma, grief, substance use/abuse, relationship issues, parenting concerns and diminished coping skills.  A patient centered approach allows me to most efficiently utilize my clinical training. It would be an honor to help you heal and grow while sharing your story. 

Jaden Stallworth

Emerging Professional

Jaden Stallworth is a Waterbury, Connecticut native and is a graduate of Waterbury Career Academy. He was a standout varsity basketball player, and he continues to play recreationally as much as he can. He is currently a Sophomore at Southern Connecticut University, where he is exploring many areas of study.  As an Emerging Professional, he brings a perspective closely related to the day-to-day experiences of young adults. This makes him a great asset to our work, and he serves a reminder we must ensure we are considering unique and creative ways to stay relevant with trends and interests of young adults.
